Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Focuses on the idea that what we believe impacts what we think, which in turn impacts how we feel and what we do. Identifying core beliefs that could be negatively impacting our overall functioning and working to establish healthier beliefs and thoughts to then lead to improved mood and overall actions.  “You think it, you feel it, you do it.”

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Focuses on the idea that people do what they do because they have not learned other methods. It focuses on 4 concepts and works to develop skills in each of these areas thus learning improved ways to cope in various situations. The 4 skills that are developed are: Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. “We resort to what we know.”

Behavioral Management

Works to identify specific behaviors that are problematic, identifying causes of behaviors and identifying and reinforcing improved/alternative behaviors. Implements use of rewards and consequences to develop increased wanted behaviors. Often used with children specifically. “If we are motivated to do the appropriate task we will do it.”

Faith Based Approaches

Combining mental health techniques in addition to concepts of faith and spirituality into the therapeutic process. Combining faith and modern science to treat the whole person. Working to appreciate a client’s faith to assist in understanding their background, boundaries, and morals in relation to their therapeutic needs, experiences, and treatment. “What we base our identity and morals on will significantly impact how we view ourselves and the world around us. This can provide a sense of hope and ability to view even negative life events and situations with forgiveness and a sense of peace.”
